OUR MISSION is to assist in the harvesting of souls by providing products that glorify the Lord while operating The Harvest Company as both a business and a ministry in order to serve our customers as unto the Lord. To fulfill this mission, we have identified the following objectives and commit to: · provide Biblically based resources to equip the saints. · maintain the spiritual foundation of this ministry in every aspect of daily operation · build relationships with the Lord and others, · offer a place of peace and comfort for those who are burdened, and · encourage each other to be Salt and Light. “Open your eyes and look at the fields! They are ripe for harvest.” John 4:35 (NIV) “For the equipping of the saints for the work of service, to the building up of the body of Christ; until we all attain to the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God.” Ephesians 4:12 (NAS) |

OUR HISTORY: The Harvest Company was opened in 1980 in a 900 square foot location by Jane Burton, Elizabeth George and Laura Pratt-a mother and her two daughters. It became not only a Christian Bookstore but also a strong prayer ministry and peaceful haven for the hurting. When Jane wanted to spend more time with her husband and Laura and Elizabeth were ready to pursue other doors the Lord was opening for them they put The Harvest Company up for sale in 1990. Being one of the customers they had blessed I was sad to think of anyone else running the store. After one offer fell through I’m ashamed to say I was happy and I was telling my husband of six months about the situation. He looked me in the eye and said “You want to buy that store, don’t you?” The thought hadn’t entered my mind but when he said it I realized that I did and called Jane. Jane is a true Southern lady in every sense and I casually asked her how much she was asking for The Harvest Company and in a very uncharacteristically brusque manner she asked “Who wants to know?” I stammered that I did and she said “It’s about time.” By this time I was ready to hang up and start over but she went on to explain that she and her daughters had been praying about the sale and the Lord gave them two names - mine was one of them. Needless to say, with no bookstore experience but completely by God’s grace I was behind the counter as owner/manager in less than six weeks. It wasn’t long before my husband was working nights after a long day at his job helping with paperwork, taxes and all the behind the scenes operations. By the end of the third month we knew that he was supposed to be full-time with me. In faith he quit his job and we began the most challenging and rewarding walk in our lives. We have moved from the original 900 sq. feet to 2000 sq. ft, added a second location of 5000 sq. ft., closed the smaller store and opened and closed another store. We are currently in one store in Chesapeake and the Lord has blessed us. We pray that we are continuing The Harvest Company legacy of prayer and commitment to our customers and the community and will always be a peaceful haven in the middle of a chaotic world. |
